So, we made it through the newborn stage and are now well into the triumphs and tribulations of some major developmental leaps (where was the warning about this in the antenatal classes?!)
The first 3 months were obviously an adjustment, but we struck it lucky and had a baby who would sleep pretty well through from 11-7 at about 8 or 9 weeks old. The shock of a 4 month sleep regression is pretty insane. Our new routine looks a little like this:
Bedtime routine 6:30-7:00
Sleep until anywhere between 8:00 and 9:00
Awake until we go to bed, feed and get back to sleep by about 11
Wake up at 1:00, 3:00, 5:00 (uuggggghhh!)
Refuse to go back to bed in the cot under any circumstance!
Get up between 8:00 and 9:00
Survive the day!!
Mastering laying down feeding makes this a little easier, although I have lost count of the number of times I wake up with my boobs still out from falling asleep on the job!
Aside from relearning what works for Otis, me and us as a family… there have been some wonderful things happen in the last month. Otis rolls all the time, he giggles and smiles as a reaction to things we do (mainly growling with him!), he puts everything in his mouth (sterilising anything sort of seems pointless seeing as hes more effective at picking up muck than our vaccuum!), he enjoys silly rhymes and games and is mastering making all sorts of noises (mainly blowing raspberries and squealing)
Much as I miss the newborn stage and some full nights of sleep, this time is wonderful!
Now time to squeeze in a nap…. x
